Transport ministers from more than 60 countries gathered at the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, where they called for a new framework to improve road safety within corporate value chains.

The declaration from the ministerial meeting, which brought together 69 member states of the ITF, emphasizes the need for the private sector to implement the principles of the road safety system. These principles are detailed in the document “Global Plan for the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.” Companies have been urged to comply with the standards in order to reduce the number of deaths and injuries in accidents.

The initiative aims to measure safety performance. There are also plans to improve and adopt key UN and industry safety standards, including ISO 39001. This standard specifies requirements for road safety management systems, which help organizations reduce accidents and injuries.

In addition, the new framework could be incorporated into companies’ corporate social responsibility plans and social financing practices. The initiative comes at a time of efforts to increase cooperation between the health and transport sectors.

Application of international standards and cooperation between sectors will enable achieving better results in reducing traffic accidents.

This declaration represents an important step towards creating safer roads around the world. It is also important that it emphasizes the joint responsibility of governments and the private sector in achieving security.
